Acerca de Via Alessandro Specchi
There are many late Gothic stylistic features, reassembled and mixed in an unusual synthesis, with elements and lines of personal invention by the architect Galassi.
The construction of the building coincided with the demolition of Palazzo Torlonia in Piazza Venezia and part of the decorations of the same were purchased by Eng. Calzone (first owner), to then be reassembled in some rooms of the building.
The large entrance hall has an oval shape, one of the four winds, the work of Vincenzo Gajassi, which adorned the ceiling of the Diana room in Palazzo Torlonia has been inserted in the domed ceiling. The floor is decorated with mosaics and the family crest has been included. The 'candlesticks' painted by Cerretti from the same Diana room have been inserted into the four pillars.
The main stairs are embellished with frescoes by Francesco Podesti and stuccoes from the Thorvalsen school. One of the large rooms or halls features reinforced concrete beams forming a geometrically decorated coffered ceiling. Along the walls there is a cymatium formed by mirrors decorated with festoons and birds.
The dining room is certainly the most evocative environment for its eclectic style where liberty, rococo and neoclassical elements are harmoniously mixed.
The building has recently been renovated. Particular attention was paid to the restoration of the decorations that have been renewed.
